We know the softball recruiting world can be overwhelming and that's the reason we created MID TN SOFTBALL to help those in the area make the most of their recruitment process. Below are some tips we hope can help you along the way!
Not every college will be for you and THAT IS OKAY! But to know what kind of school is right for you, ask yourself what YOU are looking for! Here are some good questions to start with:
How far from home do you want to be? Do you care if your parents can come watch?
What type of coach do you want to play for?
Does the class sizes matter? (smaller or bigger)
Do you want to ensure playing early is an option, or are you OK sitting a few years waiting for your turn to play?
Do they have the major you are interested in?
How much scholarship money do you need?
Now that you know what you are looking for, research colleges that meet what your criteria! Your list should start with 10-15 schools! Over time this will get smaller but you need to start looking at all of your options.
*The BIGGEST mistake we see is that players only have one dream school they are looking at, or only make a list of schools in one division
Your list of schools needs to include at least ONE of EACH LEVEL (D1,D2,D3,NAIA, JUCO)
Fast Fact: Division 1 has (6,168) player spots TOTAL! All other divisions combined (23,623), which means only 4.8% of all softball spots are D1 so don't miss out!
A great website to research what schools are near you is

Each division has different recruiting rules and calendars and it is important to know the rules and dates of each! These rules determine when a college can come recruit, respond to emails, be able to talk to recruits on or off campus, and much more. Here are some helpful links to make sure you are up to date on this information
Now that you know what your looking for, researched and made your list of colleges, and know the rules of recruiting, there is only one thing left to do- GET OUT THERE and find ways to communicate and interact with colleges! Some of the easiest ways to do this are the following:
Send emails to the college coaches you are interested in to introduce yourself!
Create social media pages ( i.e Twitter) and upload content of practice, workouts, and games to share your film with colleges.
Go to college softball games and camps to watch the colleges you're interested in and experience the environment.
Come to quality events, like MID TN SOFTBALL events ;) , to network and get feedback from college coaches.
